Residents of the City of Southport will experience periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system beginning July 7.
City crews will install new valves in the water mains, causing outages Monday, July 7 through Wednesday, July 9. Outage times each day will begin at approximately 11 p.m. and service should be restored at or before 5 a.m.
Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for back-siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system.
Officials advise residents when water service is restored to boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice) or use bottled water.
Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease causing organisms that may be present in the water.
The advisory is anticipated to be lifted by 8 a.m. Thursday, July 10.
Areas not affected by these outages include the subdivisions of: Harbor Oaks, The Landing, Turtlewood, Smithville Woods, Cade's Cove, Deep Point Marina, The Cottages at Prices Creek, Southport Way, The Ridge, Forest Oaks, Bonnet Way, and all areas north of Stuart Avenue. Carillon Assisted Living will be unaffected as well.
