WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) -

Whiteville City Council will meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. to discuss City Manager Larry Faison's resignation and the recruitment of his replacement.

Faison, who started in Whiteville in December 2009, was offered the Monroe city manager position Monday morning, according to The (Monroe) Enquirer-Journal.

"I've appreciated the time that I've had here in Whiteville and the opportunities that the community and city council have extended," Faison said. "It's been a wonderful place to work, live and socialize."

Faison said he looks forward to working in a larger community with "urbanizing elements."

"I'm really humbled by the process and opportunity to work in a community such as Monroe."

Faison will make $140,000 as Monroe's city manager, nearly twice his current salary in Whiteville.

Faison explained his Whiteville end date was still being negotiated, but said he will provide at least 90 days notice.
