10th Annual cape fear 7's tournament

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

This weekend Ogden Park is hosting the Cape Fear 7's Rugby Tournament.

The 40-year long event is hosting 58 dominating men's and women's teams.  Each going head-to-head for a taste of what the best competition in the country has to offer.

Teams flew in from Ohio, California, and one player even make the trip from Kenya.  The tournament director, Ray Funderburk, said despite harsh weather this week, today was the best conditions his tournament has seen.

"The only thing that scared us this year was the hurricane," explained  Funderburk.  "Not because they thought it was going to hit but they were worried about rain on these fields. But as you can see these fields are not even wet today.  Everything's evaporated and it's beautiful out here."

The tournament wraps up Sunday starting at 9 a.m. and the semi-finals kick off at noon.
