A couple of weeks ago I did a segment on Flag Day and I suggested that you really think about the words you're saying when you say the Pledge of Allegiance. And I took my own medicine.
It's a short pledge, but I got hung up on the very first line. "I pledge allegiance." Those are very strong words. Think about that. And then ask yourself where you are on a scale of 1 to 10 on that statement. What would you be willing to do to show your allegiance to this country?
I hope you are closer to a 10 than you are to one. I am…but I am not all the way to 10. I rank God ahead of country…and sadly I'm not a 10 there either.
Here we are at another Independence Day holiday weekend. And I ask you again, please think about what you are saying when you say the pledge. It might bring more meaning to the moment.
And as a side note…there is no pause or comma between the words "Nation" and "under God." Try saying it the right way and you just might surprise and amaze your friends.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
