WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

The City of Wilmington Fourth of July Fireworks celebration takes place Friday and we have helpful tips from the city if you plan to head downtown to watch the fireworks.

Vendors and music start at 5 p.m. on Water Street. The fireworks show begins at 9:05 p.m. which take place on a barge on the Cape Fear River. WECT will air the fireworks live on air, online and on mobile.

According to the city, vehicles should park on the side of downtown Wilmington (with Chestnut St. being the dividing line) that is closest to the direction they will travel after the fireworks have ended. Parking decks will charge a $7 event fee.

Traffic parked south of Chestnut St. will be diverted south towards Market St., Dawson St. and the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge - includes the City parking decks in the 100 block of Market St. and in the 100 block of N. 2nd St.

Traffic parked north of Chestnut St. will be diverted north towards MLK Parkway and the Isabel Holmes Bridge - includes the NHC parking deck in the 200 block of N. 2nd St.

Be patient and expect delays when arriving or leaving the area.
