The Red Cross is in the process of calling Red Cross disaster volunteers in preparation for Tropical Storm Arthur.
The Red Cross has three stages of disaster response: Preparedness, response and recovery.
The preparedness stage means putting volunteers on standby and encouraging Port City residents to gather items for a disaster relief kit.
"It's really easy things that can save your life and your family," said Autumn Mihn, a representative of the American Red Cross.
Despite the Fourth of July weekend, the Red Cross said after about 100 calls, enough volunteers are on standby for anything Tropical Hurricane Arthur sends to the Wilmington area.
