WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

June 30 has been proclaimed by the Wilmington City council as #spreadtheWilm Day. Use the hashtag on social media to show why you love Wilmington and the surrounding beaches.

The day has been designated to support the Port City and promote tourism in the Cape Fear area.

Mayor Bill Saffo encourages others to join the conversation by taking pictures and videos of things they like about Wilmington and posting them to social media using #spreadtheWilm.

Each post will be displayed at spreadthewilm.com and pictures will be entered into a social media contest through the end of August. Weekly winners will be qualified for a grand prize "staycation" drawing.
