After a month long search, Ashley High School Athletic Director Roy Turner has hired Mike Propst as the schools latest football coach.
Turner didn't have to look far to find Propst, who had served as an assistant under former head coach Tom Eanes for the past three seasons.
This will be Propst's fifth head coaching job, last being the coach at York High School.
"I want kids to understand that we are building a program here, and not a team with a bunch of guys in uniforms," Propst said. "What we want to do is find out what part of the building process are you going to be part of. Are you going to be part of the bottom level the middle that kind of thing? That is something we preach to them every day."
For the past three seasons Ashley has run and option based offensive attack, expect that to change.
"We are going to be more of a pro style offense and we are going to change the defense some to. But to me x's and o's are just x's and o's," Propst explained. "The biggest thing is building things so they work hard, and we are not going to let other guys out work us."
Propst takes over a Screaming Eagles program that has just one winning season in its 13 year history.
