WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Governor Pat McCrory signed a bill amending the law that restricts registered sex offenders from living within 1,000 feet of a school or child care facility.

The changes include any sites where a Boys and Girls Club of America is located.

Officials with Brigade Boys and Girls Club say it's a welcome addition.

"We're happy that the state has realized that we have a lot of kids here and that they need to be protected and that they have enacted a bill that adds one more measure of safety to help us keep these kids safe," said Jeff Green, Director of Brigade Boys and Girls Club.

The bill would not affect registered sex offenders already living within the restricted perimeter, only those registered as of June 24, 2014.
