First Alert Forecast: Slight "cool" down Monday before typical Summer pattern returns

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -  A weak high pressure system will build across southeast North Carolina, bringing slightly cooler temperatures and lower rain chances. By mid-week, the warm, tropical air mass returns and the mercury in the thermometer will rise once again into the low and mid 90s.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy skies and mostly dry conditions will persist for much of the day as the high to our north begins to lose its grip. Highs will be in the upper 80s with lows in the low 70s. The tropical air mass will begin to make a comeback late in the evening on Tuesday and it will begin to feel a lot more humid and warm by Wednesday morning.

EXTENDED FORECAST INTO THE WEEKEND: The typical summer pattern will make a return with the Bermuda high pressure ridge taking charge. Look for highs in the low to mid 90s each day and lows in the low to mid 70s.  Afternoon heat index values may approach 100.  Drink lots of water! Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and early evening hours.  Storms may contain localized heavy downpours and lots of cloud to ground lightning.  Rain chances are about 30% each day.

TROPICS: There are no areas of disturbance in the tropical Atlantic at this time.
