Kansas City police are looking for suspects after a man and woman were both shot.
One victim is in critical condition and another badly hurt.
It happened in front of St. Louis Parish, located near East 60th Street and Swope Parkway.
Police say the man and woman were walking down the street about 4:15 a.m. Saturday when they were approached by two men who opened fire on them.
People who live in the Elmwood neighborhood said they woke up to the sound of gun fire.
"It's pretty horrible. There's a lot of stuff like this that goes on around here," Matthew Chestnut said.
After being shot, the two victims staggered to a gas station located about a block away for help. There a clerk was able to call 911.
Chestnut has lived in the area for more than a year and a half and says the neighborhood is only getting worse.
"It was kind of dangerous when I got here, but it's only gotten worse," he said. "I'm thinking about moving out."
Mark Miller was shocked to learn that the shooting happened so close to his home. He said this type of thing doesn't happen in their neighborhood.
"The people that are doing it, I wish they'd wake up because it's just senseless," Miller said. "It's very rare, this is a nice quiet block."
Now that it has, Miller says he's going to keep a closer eye on his loved ones.
"Just to be a lot more cautious, a lot more cautious," he said.
Police don't have any suspects at this time and are investigating the motive behind the shooting.
