First Alert Forecast: Stormy start to Summer, temperatures dipping into upper 80s

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -  Showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread and stronger as low pressure develops and a cool front lingers over the Carolinas. The low will move south and east off of the North Carolina coast Sunday. Then, temperatures will be on the rise next week with chances for afternoon thunderstorms.

SUNDAY: The cool front mixing with an area of low pressure forming over the Carolinas will continue those showers and storms into our Sunday morning. However, the chance for an afternoon/evening thunderstorm drops a tad. Skies will still be mostly cloudy with a rain chance of 30%. High temperatures will be slightly cooler with low temperatures mild in the low to mid 70s.

MONDAY/TUESDAY: Winds shift and will have more of a notherly component. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 80s for a change! Low temperatures will be in the low 70s. There is a small chance for afternoon thunderstorms with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The typical summer pattern will make a return with the Bermuda high pressure ridge taking charge.  Look for highs in the low 90s each day and lows in the low to mid 70s.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and early evening hours.  Rain chances are 20%-30% each day.

TROPICS: There are no areas of disturbance in the tropical Atlantic at this time.

STORMFEST 2014: Thank you to those who came out to meet the WECT First Alert Weather team and learn more about hurricane preparedness on Saturday!
