Explore the science of weather with the National Weather Service, local broadcast meteorologists, and community safety experts at Stormfest 2014 beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 21.
According to the Cape Fear Museum's website, Stormfest will have interactive weather demonstrations by Cape Fear Museum educators. Plenty of hands-on elements will be scattered throughout the museum like the five-foot-tall cyclone simulator brought by the National Weather Service.
During the event you will get to meet the First Alert Weather Team and enjoy several activities planned for the WECT/Fox Wilmington booth. You will also be able to try your hand as a TV meteorologist by using our green screen.
Our meteorologists will be on hand to get your weather radio programmed as well as inform you of local resources for severe weather preparedness, response, and recovery. You can even train to be a National Weather Service Storm Spotter.
Stormfest is family-friendly and includes hands-on experiments to investigate the science behind weather. You will also have the opportunity to present your own forecast, make weather tools you can use at home and win great prizes!
Representatives from the local chapter of the American Red Cross, A.R.E.S Amateur Radio, New Hanover County Emergency Management, New Hanover County Public Library, Senior Resource Center, Sheriff's Office, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Catastrophe Readiness will be located throughout the Museum to discuss hurricane preparedness and offer tips on keeping your family safe during severe weather.
