UNCW has officially named Dr. Rick Whitfield as the university's next vice chancellor for business affairs. He will start in the position July 1.
"Rick Whitfield has an excellent track record, both at UNCW and other institutions, for innovative thinking and sound fiscal management," Chancellor Gary L. Miller said in a news release. "With Rick's expertise, UNCW has developed cost allocation and budget analytics programs that have earned well-deserved recognition as models within the UNC system. I am delighted that he has accepted the opportunity to lead our business affairs division."
According to UNCW, Whitfield has 35 years of experience in higher education leadership and operations. Before joining UNCW in 2010, he served as executive vice president at Pace University.
"I am honored to have been chosen for this role and to carry on Charlie Maimone's legacy of excellence," Whitfield said. "Our university has grown in so many ways since I arrived four years ago, and I look forward to continuing to bolster the financial programs and operational practices that have made UNCW a model for innovation, quality and efficiency."
UNCW anticipates Whitfield's work with debt refinancing at UNCW will result in savings of approximately $8 million in interest costs over the next 20 years.
