WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

State officials from the NCDENR are requiring Duke Energy to address the piping systems at three coal ash dams across the state including the Sutton Plant in Wilmington.

Duke Energy is being asked to get an engineer's assessment on portions of the piping system that were not clear during the last inspection. According to the NCDENR video taken of the pipes was distorted or sections of the pipes were not visible. The last inspection did not show any major leaks.

The other sites Duke Energy is being asked to look at are in Asheville, Charlotte, and Eden. These investigations stem from the large coal ash spill into the Dan River facility in Eden.
