DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

State insurance investigators charged a former volunteer firefighter in Onslow County after he reportedly set his own vehicle on fire and tried to collect insurance.

Investigators say that Michael Rumfalo of Kenansville reported his vehicle stolen last October in Onslow County.

According to WITN, Rumfalo is accused of burning his vehicle and trying to collect insurance money from Esurance Insurance Company.

Officials arrested Rumfalo Friday and charged him with one count of burning personal property, insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense, and filing a false police report.

Rumfalo is in jail under a $15,000 bond.
