WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Authorities have arrested a man in connection to a home invasion murder that happened in Wilmington last Friday.
According to Captain Allsbrook, officers assigned with other US Marshals Task Force arrested Zeer Nifis Cannady Monday in the 100 block of Meares Street near South Front Street.
Wilmington Police responded last Friday to reports of an armed robbery on South 13th Street around 4 p.m.
Witnesses told police that Cannady and two other gunmen entered the home to commit robbery and that's when shots were fired.
Two men were shot, one fatally, during the reported home invasion.
According to police, 47-year-old Aaron McGhee died after being transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Terae Kareem Graham was also shot during the incident, but is in fair condition.
Cannady, 20, was charged with the following:
- First degree murder
- 5 counts Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
- Conspiracy to commit robbery
- Assault with a deadly weapon with in kill or inflict serious injury
- Attempted 1st degree murder
- Possession of firearm by felon
Cannady is currently in the New Hanover County Jail under a $2 million secured bond.
Detectives also searched Cannady's home as part of this on-going investigation, but have not released any findings at this time.
According to arrest warrants, Cannady went into the home on South 13th Street Friday with a handgun and stole hundreds of dollars from multiple people including murder victim Aaron McGhee.
Search warrants show the home where the incident happened is believed to be a known gambling spot. According to the warrant, police took two cell phones, a set of dice, and $94 dollars from the house.
Cannady had a past armed robbery charges against him. He was part of a duo that robbed a woman at gun point, then led police on a high speed chase in Leland (http://bit.ly/1nLhLyG).
Detectives will continue to investigate the fatal shooting, home invasion case as it was originally reported there were three suspects involved.
