ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

The bond has been increased to $2.5 million for the man accused of shooting his ex-wife in Jacksonville and leading authorities on a chase that ended in Columbus County back in March.

George Evans is accused of shooting his ex-wife, Audrey Evans, in the parking lot of the Olive Garden in Jacksonville.

According to Highway Patrol, officials tried to pull Evans over on US 701 just south of Whiteville. Evans refused to stop and led authorities on a chase.

Officials said the vehicle eventually traveled onto US 74/76 towards Wilmington before stopping in the median. At that point, Highway Patrol said Evans got out of the vehicle and showed a weapon, and that's when officers opened fire.

Evans sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
