WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Fire crews are investigating a house fire that happened at 417 Pettigrew Dr. around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

According to Wilmington Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Smith, an officer with the Wilmington Police Department was patrolling the area when he smelled smoke. The officer immediately called the fire department.

When fire crews arrived they saw flames and smoke coming through the roof. They were able to get the fire under control shortly before 6 a.m.

The house was about to be put on the market, so no one had been living in the home for some time.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Officials have determined the fire to be accidental. It started in the attic and is believed to have been the result of an electrical issue. Damages have been estimated to be $100,000.
