BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A Bladen County woman was sentenced in court Friday in connection to the second degree murder of 17-year-old Princess Cromartie. Shakendria Harper, 23, will serve 10-13 years in jail.

Harper and Cromartie got into a fight near HWY 701 north of Elizabethtown, Feb. 24, 2011. Harper stabbed Cromartie in the leg and hit an artery, according to Bladen County investigators.

Cromartie died a day later in the hospital.

According to the victim's family, the two teens met in an online chat room, called ooVoo. They said the friendship faded, however, when the two allegedly got into a fight over a boy.

Cromartie's father said the teen had left her job at his business one afternoon to run home and Harper was waiting outside for her.

The victim's cousin, Tammorah Smith, said the family will remember Cromartie as a sweet girl who loved life.

"That was a beautiful person that they took from us," she said. "That was senseless. Getting out here fighting and all that nonsense, that is not the answer to solving stuff."
