Tift Gymnastics Academy training champions

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The sounds of the gym are alive on summer mornings in Tifton, as gymnasts in the Tift Gymnastics Academy begin their workout

Established only a year ago, the Academy has already left it's impact on the state

"We said we were going to go in and make a name for ourselves, and we did," says gym owner and head coach Ben Ledl.

TGA boasts two state champs, two national team members, and a nationally ranked gymnast on bars.

Those who compete say their success is a credit to the gym and its family atmosphere.

"We cheer on each other and it makes you want to do it because all your teammates have," says Elyssa Roberts, who recently won a state title in beam and floor.

"It's just really the coach," says USA Gymnastics National Team member Anna Sumner. "He just keeps a nice positive attitude."

Ledl came from Chicago, but says he isn't surprised to find talented gymnasts in the much smaller town of Tifton.

"The talent is out there. It just needs to be put together somewhere," he says.

So far, that talent has found a home here.  Ledl says he hopes the success continues to build.

"It's humbled me to the point to where I just want to stay in that humbled state and just see where it takes us," he says.
