WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

UNC Wilmington Criminology Professor Mike Adams has won a seven year legal battle against the university in which they must now pay over $700,000 in legal fees.

Tuesday U.S. District Court Judge Malcolm Howard ordered UNCW to pay him $710,000 in legal fees according to Adams. Adams says he was denied a promotion because of his conservative political views as a columnist for Townhall.com. After a seven year fight, a federal jury sided with Professor Adams and a judge ordered that he be promoted to full professor and receive $50,000 in back pay.

UNC Wilmington appealed the jury's decision back in May. You can read more about that story here: http://bit.ly/1oLAmM6

Adams declined to comment further on the outcome of the case and that all further questions will be handled by his attorneys with Alliance Defending Freedom.
