Whiteville City Council voted Tuesday night to accept 32 acres of land to expand the city's recreation complex.
The non-profit Whiteville Development Commission offered the land, which is adjacent to the city's Nolan Fitness and Recreational Complex.
The gifted land can serve as a required local match for future state grants, according to a memo from City Manager Larry Faison.
The complex already includes an indoor basketball court, soccer fields, tennis courts and a baseball field. Plans call for the addition of a wildlife trail, frisbee golf and a sand volleyball court, among other amenities.
