Columbus Co. woman in hospital after car hits bridge, lands in water

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A Columbus County woman is in the hospital after her vehicle struck a bridge and landed in the water Monday morning.

According to Buckhead Fire Department Assistant Chief Victor Jacobs, emergency crews responded to reports of a serious accident off Old Lake Road near East Columbus High School. 

When crews arrived on scene, they found a vehicle submerged in water. A Lake Waccamaw Police officer pulled a woman from the vehicle and a Columbus County Sheriff's deputy performed CPR until EMS could arrive.

The woman was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

According to Jacobs, at last check, the woman is currently alive but her condition is not known at this time.
