Small business owners on Pleasure Island are encouraging residents to "Eat, Shop, Play and Stay Local" to spur the local economy.
According to organizers, the Pleasure Island business economy should be booming even when tourist season is over.
Although tourist season is kicking off, small business owners are still vocal in explaining how important it is to keep the economy strong year-round.
Every Friday has been named "Island Local" day in Pleasure Island.
If a customer is wearing an Island local shirt and shows up to a participating Island Local business, they'll receive discounts and specials deals.
"It's kind of like a walking coupon," co-founder, Jessica Keenan explained.
The Official Tourism Development Authority for New Hanover County said they are pleased with the campaign.
"Getting the enthusiasm of the residents is one best cheerleaders the tourist economy can have," said President Kim Hufham. "Once tourists visit Pleasure Island, the Island Local campaign will keep them coming back."
Island Local will host campaigns throughout the year to encourage residents to buy, eat, stay and play local.
