WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Wilmington Police issued an arrest warrant for a man who assaulted another man with a bat Thursday night.

Officers responded to New Hanover Regional Medical Center about a reported assault. When they arrived, they spoke to the victim who had a swollen face and hand.

The victim said he was near a store at the intersection of 12th and Chestnut Streets when he got into an argument with the suspect, 60-year-old Freddie Eugene Davis. The two men began shoving each other. According to the victim, Davis said he had to get something from his apartment. He came back with a bat and began swinging at the victim.

The victim was knocked to the ground and was hit multiple times before bystanders broke up the fight. One of the bystanders drove the victim to the hospital.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Davis, but haven't been able to locate him yet.
