It may look like just any old house, but within the walls lies a state of the art, energy efficient living area.
It's called a passive house, and while it has not yet been certified under that name, it's part of some of the most rigorous efficiency standards in the world.
It's the first of its kind in Wilmington, but builders hope it sparks a trend for energy efficient projects in our area.
"It looks like a typical house, but it performs better than a typical house," Builder Lucien Ellison said. "It's going to save you energy. It's going to give you fabulous indoor air quality. It's going to reduce your carbon foot print, and it's going to save you money."
Builders say it costs about 15 percent more to build a passive house compared to a traditional home.
However, they believe it pays for itself by drastically lowering the energy bill each month.
