Leland man arrested for B&E, attempted rape

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A Leland man is behind bars after breaking into an apartment in Wilmington and attempting to rape a woman Wednesday morning.

Wilmington Police responded to reports of a breaking and entering at an apartment off Racine Drive around 7 a.m. When officers arrived, they saw Clarence Jacobs, Jr., 29, leaving the apartment. Officers chased Jacobs and arrested him on Cardinal Drive.

The victim told police that she left her front door unlocked while walking her dog. When she returned, she found the suspect in her apartment who then attacked her. The victim jumped from a second floor window and ran to a neighbor's house to call police. The victim sustained only minor cuts and bruises.

Jacbos is charged with breaking and entering, resisting arrest, larceny, and second degree rape and kidnapping. He's currently in the New Hanover County Jail under a $500,000 bond.
