BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A former deputy with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office has been convicted of sex crimes with a prostitute.
Timothy Caulder was found guilty of two counts of soliciting prostitution and two counts of soliciting crimes against nature.
He was given a 45-day suspended sentence along with 18 months of unsupervised probation, but appealed the decision.
The crime happened in August 2013, but officials will spend the next few months going through the appeals process and expect to take the case before a jury.
The charges stemmed from a two week internal investigation by the department's internal affairs division that referred the case to drug investigators.
According to arrest warrants, Deputy Caulder solicited the same woman on two separate occasions in the month of August. According to the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office, the woman listed in the arrest warrants was not charged.
The sheriff's office fired Caulder immediately. He was hired as a detention center deputy in December 2011.
