Wednesday marked a small victory for local beach towns in their quest for dredging dollars.
A bill state representative Ted Davis sponsored passed the committee stage of the General Assembly according to Davis.
The bill gives room occupancy tax funds collected in unincorporated parts of New Hanover County to beach towns located in unincorporated parts of the county.
Carolina Beach Mayor Dan Wilcox said this will not be a total long term solution to funding dredging, but it still helps.
"Any little bit will help and there is a possibility because that fund has accumulated over a million dollars that we could take enough of that to do a full profile dredge of the inlet for the first time in many, many years," Wilcox said.
The bill will now move on to the house.
