Council member Kevin O'Grady suggested during Monday's Wilmington City Council agenda briefing a new way to help crack down on crime in the Port City.
Councilman Kevin O'Grady suggested using Cape Fear Community College's Schwartz Center as a place where teens can go to play sports and stay out of trouble.
The council is currently deciding how much money should be allotted for the community college in their current budget.
O'Grady elaborated that the city could utilize the center as a place for youth recreation and the college could receive city funding for programs.
"One of our goals this year is to try to do more intervention with inner-city youth and then a gymnasium on the north side would be a great assistance to us and I asked them whether it could be made available," O'Grady said.
O'Grady said he has already spoken to officials at Cape Fear Community College about this option.
The council made it clear that this is just an idea and nothing is final yet.
