Sharks Press Release

Wilmington, NC – Close to 2000 fans filled the stands of Buck Hardee Field, and close to 2000 fans left with a smile on their face. The offensive production from the home team began early in the contest, with an infield single from Steven Linkous. UNCW's Steven Linkous finished Saturday night's game 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 RBIs, and crossed home once on his own. Although Linkous stood out for the Sharks, it was a great team win.

The second inning proved to be the difference maker at the Shark Tank. Nathan Becker started it off with a single, followed by Cam McRae taking base after four balls on five pitches. Sam Foy was able to reach base safely on a fielder's choice, loading the bases with no men out for Joe DeVito, who hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Becker. McRae and Foy were also able to cross home plate on a bases clearing single by Linkous, who later scored off the bat of Nate Moorhouse.

The four run second inning, as impressive as it was, was overshadowed by the mighty right arm of Joe O'Donnell. The Wilmington native provided an amazing complete 7 innings, allowing only a single hit which occurred in the first inning. Morehead City's Firstbaseman Quincy Nieporte had the lone hit for the Marlins. After Nieporte was aboard safely, O'Donnell retired nineteen consecutive Marlins batters, striking out three.

Nate Moorhouse had 2 hits, stole 2 bases, scoring once. Becker added 2 hits for the Sharks, and Cam McRae knocked a triple into right center field in the 5th inning, who later scored for the fifth and final run for Wilmington.

The Sharks have Sunday off before returning to Buck Hardee Field when the Hi-Toms of High Point-Thomasville roll into town.
