2014 Atlantic hurricane season names

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Hurricane names are recycled every six years, so that means 2008's hurricane names will be used again during the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season with the exception of the names that have been retired.

Here are the names for the 2014 season:

Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, Wilfred

Here are the names that were used for the 2008 hurricane season:

Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paloma, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky, Wilfred

You may notice Gustav, Ike, and Paloma were not reused for the 2014 season. Instead, they have been replaced by Gonzalo, Isaias, and Paulette.

The National Hurricane Center will not reuse a name if that particular storm was deadly or very costly.
