NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A public hearing on the special use permitting in New Hanover County will be held during the NHC Board of County Commissioner's Monday evening.

At their agenda briefing Thursday afternoon, the commissioners spoke about changes to the permitting process.

Some commissioners are worried about public concerns that the permit would take away environmental requirements and allow for big industries to easily operate in the area.

Chairman of the New Hanover County Commissioners, Woody White, said the permit does not strengthen or weaken any facet of the process.

"We're not considering whether or not Titan Cement is going to come forward on Monday. We're simply taking a government ordinance and making it clearer and easier for people to read and understand," explained White.

The commissioners meet Monday at 6 p.m. at the New Hanover County Courthouse.
