Signs are already out warning drivers that Snow's Cut Bridge will be down to just one lane of traffic in each direction starting June 2.
The closures are expected to last through Friday June 6, running from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, for biannual bridge inspections.
While crews did wait to continue this bridge work until after Memorial Day Weekend, some Carolina Beach locals are upset that it couldn't be finished before the start of beach season.
"We really shouldn't have it impact us negatively but just a little bit disappointing that it couldn't have been done before hand," Town Manager Michael Cramer said.
Others say the bridge work cuts into beach season traffic and business.
"There are actually people who try and come on to Carolina beach, realize the traffic is so backed up, they actually go to Wrightsville beach," said Tyler Switzer, who works at Pleasure Island Rentals. "That's money out of our shop's pocket and all of the shops here in Carolina Beach and Kure Beach."
Switzer says the lane closures also impact his drive to work, requiring him to get up an hour earlier to beat the traffic on and off the island.
