The New Hanover County Airport Authority has canceled a special meeting for Friday night where the board would have considered a resolution to ask the county to remove one of its five members.
"We have a charge to do what's best for the community and what's best for the airport," said Tom Barber, Airport Authority Chairman, on why special meeting was canceled. "I think if we all double our efforts on what's best for the community and what's best for the airport, we can move through this."
The proposed resolution would have requested that the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners remove Al Roseman from the authority. Roseman's term is not set to expire until July next year. He was appointed to the post in 2011.
Barber said that the board has had problems with Roseman in the past but that those problems weren't severe enough to require his removal from the board.
Roseman has voted against proposals in recent months to change the general aviation business at Wilmington International Airport.
Jonathan Barfield, a member of the New Hanover County Board of County Commissioners, said he doesn't see the airport authority member actually being removed by the county leaders if the resolution passed.
"I just want them to do the job that we appointed them to do- not come to us with petty disagreements and want us to remove someone because of petty disagreements," said Barfield. "On the board of county commissioners we don't always agree, but at the end of the day we are on the same board moving forward."
He expects the group to move past the issue and hopefully cancel Friday's meeting.
"To me they shouldn't even go down this road. This is the wrong path to go down so hopefully they will consider not having a meeting."
