Oak Island town leaders decided Wednesday to reduce the fines for illegal parking in designated spaces from $50 to $25.
The ruling applies to spaces that are reserved for property owners at the beach accesses.
Leaders believed the $50 was too steep of a fine for people who aren't aware of the new parking permit program, started at the beginning of 2014.
The new stickers are blue and they are $5 a piece and can be picked up at town hall with the required proof of property ownership and vehicle registration.
