Since news of a scandal over scheduling issues broke, VA clinics across the country have been scrutinized.
Wilmington HCC was among many others audited after reports of veterans waiting months for appointments; however, officials with Wilmington HCC say there have been no signs of scheduling issues here, unlike other VA clinics and hospitals across the country.
But there are some smaller problems that patients have noticed. WECT has received many reports from veterans in the Wilmington area about trouble getting through when they call the clinic, so we talked to administrator Fred Roche. He says there have been problems with the phones, but nothing that wasn't resolved in the few hours following an outage.
"Last week happened to be one of the servers went down," Roche said. "When the servers go down it not only affected our facility but other facilities that are tied into that, so it's not just an isolated incident."
Officials say there are other ways to get through to your health care providers if the phone lines are down.
They recommend that veterans use the secure messaging system within the My HealteVet program.
Officials say the clinic will get back to the veteran within 48 hours if they use that messaging system or if they leave a voicemail.
