SUPPLY, NC (WECT) -
A Civietown firefighter in recovering from injuries sustain after falling through a porch of a house that was on fire.
Civietown Fire Chief Mark Hewett said crews were paged out to a fire between midnight and 12:30 Tuesday morning at 2169 Helmsman Drive in the Captain's Wheel subdivision of Supply.
Hewett said when crews arrived the fire was quarterly involved, but the fire quickly spread to the attic space of the house. Because the fire was burning between the ceiling and the roof, it was difficult for crews to attack.
While fighting the fire, the front porch gave way and a Civietown Firefighter, with the last name Brown, fell through and suffered a possible fractured leg. Brown was taken Novant Medical Center and released later that morning.
Several fire departments from across the area responded to the blaze which took hours to contain. Hewett says Brown is in a cast until an orthopedic doctor can take a closer look and confirm a fracture.
One other volunteer firefighter from the Supply Fire Department was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation. He has also been released.
Hewett says the house, which one of the Civietown firefighters lives in, was a total loss. The fire was ruled accidental.
