COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - A Columbus County man who died in an assault last Friday was a suspect in the death of another man last month, officials say.
According to a press release from the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, Randall Lamon Sharpless, 24, of Delco was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering a possible stab wound during an altercation with another person.
Deputies responded to several 911 calls about a medical emergency and a possible assault at 631 Evergreen Church Road in Delco, shortly after midnight on Saturday morning.
Upon their arrival, deputies and emergency officials assisted Sharpless with a "medical emergency," according to the press release.
He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he later died.
The cause of death has not yet been determined. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this weekend.
Officials say a second unidentified visitor of the home suffered a minor laceration to his head. He refused medical treatment on the scene.

According to Columbus County investigators, Sharpless was a suspect in the shooting death of Livis Charles Owens, Jr. Sheriff's Office officials were working to determine if Sharpless acted in self defense. Both incidents occurred at the same address.
