CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) -

Thousands of visitors had already begun flocking to Carolina Beach's Freeman Park Friday evening.

According to Lieutenant Spivey with the Carolina Beach Police Department, the department has set up a special command center right on the beach in Freeman Park for Memorial Day weekend.

Spivey said the department expects heavy beach traffic throughout the holiday weekend. He said they will have three officers on the beach at all times.

Spivey elaborated that the main things the officers will be looking for are uncontained fires, glass bottles being disposed of in the sand, and any general safety hazards.
