WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A former New Hanover County Sheriff's Office deputy was sentenced in a sexual assault case Friday.

Harold Lamont Fletcher, 39, was convicted by a jury following a three day trial this week. Fletcher was convicted of the following crimes:

  • Attempted first degree sexual offense
  • First degree sexual exploitation of a minor
  • Six counts of indecent liberties with a child
  • 18 counts of felony secret peeping.

Fletcher was sentenced to at least 27 years with a maximum of 34 and half years in prison. He will also have to be registered as a sex offender for 30 years.

The former deputy was originally arrested on secret peeping charges in December of 2012 and more charges were taken out against him in January 2013 after new evidence was discovered.

According to arrest warrants, Fletcher "secretly used and installed a device used to create a photographic image with the intent to capture the image of another without the persons consent and for the purpose of arousing or gratifying the sexual desire of any person."

District Attorney Ben David was pleased with the jury's decision. "Sexual predators who prey on our community's most vulnerable victims deserve sentences like the one handed down today. The jury's verdict and this sentence reinforce my office's efforts to focus on defendants who commit the worst crimes," David said.
