RALEIGH, NC (WECT) -

The Port of Wilmington is set to receive nearly $900,000 from the North Carolina Department of Transportation for improvements to the railroad tracks at the facility.

The NC DOT announced more than $16 million in awards to projects across the state Thursday.

In New Hanover County, a project is now financed to construct a new interchange truck and rehabilitate existing track on the Wilmington Terminal Railroad. That project will cost no more than $833,000. Another $60,000 will upgrade the health, safety and operating efficiency of the tracks at the railroad, according to the release.
