There's a new way to enjoy the beautiful surroundings at Cheekwood Botanical Garden. Every Friday this month, you can participate in meditation in motion.
It's one part stress relief and another part workout. The classes, including yoga and tai chi, are led by certified instructors, many of them from the YMCA.
"It gives visitors a chance to exercise their body and their minds and really just enjoy Cheekwood in different light," said Anna Chappell, Cheekwood's public programs coordinator.
Classes each last about an hour and are a big contrast to your typical gym.
"There's not many places you can work out while enjoying the seasonal flowers and enjoying a breeze through your hair, so it really is a unique experience to enjoy nature at the same time," Chappell said.
Cheekwood works with the national Let's Move program, a push by the first lady to help communities get in shape.
If yoga or tai chi isn't your thing, how about something called stroller stride? It's a chance for moms and their young children to tour the gardens with stops along the way to work out.
The classes are covered with your general admission to Cheekwood.
You have two more opportunities this month to attend Fitness Fridays, and the classes will resume in September when the weather cools down.
