COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Columbus County Manager Bill Clark presented his recommended $71.5 million budget to commissioners Monday night.

Clark's plan leaves the property tax rate unchanged at 80.5 cents per $100.

All employees would receive a 2 percent raise. The salary and wage scale would increase 1.5 percent.

The county is switching employee health insurance coverage to United Healthcare. There will be no increase in premiums, but employees who don't participate in a wellness program will have to pay $30 each month.

Under Clark's budget, operations and capital outlay budgets would increase by 2 percent for Columbus County Schools, Whiteville City Schools and Southeastern Community College.

The budget would draw $1.9 million from the county's fund balance.

Commissioners will hold a budget workshop on the budget June 2 at 4 p.m.
