PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

New details have surfaced in an arson case in Pender County. Brandon Combs was charged for allegedly setting fire to a house with two people in it, now investigators believe Combs is related to home owners.

Further investigation into the case lead detectives to suspect Combs set fire to his cousin's bed after an argument, according to Captain Ezzell with the Pender County Sheriff's Office. Investigators also believe Combs' grandmother owned the house.

Combs' grandfather was the one who alerted authorities to his whereabouts after seeing him leave the area after the house was set on fire.

The arrest warrant for Combs shows that Fay Lee and Kathy Rowland were in the home at the time of the fire.

Fire and charges

Deputies have charged a man with setting a fire to a house on Highsmith Road in Burgaw Sunday evening.

According to Pender County Fire Marshal Charles Newman, firefighters responded to the two-story residential structure fire around 7 p.m. and battled the flames until 1 a.m. Monday.

Newman says evidence and witness statements on the scene led deputies to charge Combs with arson and injury to personal property.

Newman could not release anything as far as Combs' motive for lighting the house on fire. Combs is currently being held in the jail in Pender County under a $100,000 bond.

A mother and her daughter were inside the structure at the time of the fire, but were able to get out without sustaining any injuries. The house sustained severe fire damage.
