First Alert Forecast: Shower/t-storm chance late Sunday, great Monday forecast

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An upper disturbance will pass over the Carolinas late Sunday.  This system will bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms late in the day into the evening.  High pressure brings more great weather early in the new week.

SUNDAY: An upper-atmosphere disturbance will generate variable clouds and a good chance of scattered afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms.  These storms could produce gusty winds and some hail.  Highs will only reach the mid 70's.  As skies clear late Sunday night it will be cool again with lows in the low 50's.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY: High pressure takes control.  That means more great weather!  Both days will be sunny with highs in the upper 70's to near 80.  Lows will rise from near 50 Monday night to the low 60's Tuesday night.

WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY: The headline is "The heat returns!".  High pressure moves offshore and another strong ridge builds along the Gulf coast.  Skies will be partly sunny with highs soaring into the mid 80's Wednesday to near 90 Thursday.  Overnight lows warm back into the 60's.  Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely Thursday afternoon and evening ahead of a cool front.

FRIDAY AND MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: A backdoor front stalled to our south should spare southeast North Carolina from any extreme heat.  Highs will drop from the mid 80's Friday to the upper 70's by Sunday.  Spotty showers or a few thunderstorms maybe possible Friday.  However the rain chance drops to near zero over the holiday weekend.  Saturday and Sunday will feature lots of sun and low humidity!  Enjoy!
