Elected officials from the Cape Fear Region got the chance to take a backseat from politics for an evening and enjoy each other's company.

The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce hosted its 11th barbeque dinner for elected leaders in the Cape Fear region Friday.

Leaders such as the New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon and Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo were just a few of those in attendance.

Connie Majure-Rhett, President & CEO at Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, said the event is designed to give back to the politicians for the work that they do.

"We complain about elected officials all the time, but none of us want to run. None of us want to go through what they do," she said. "This is a chance for us to say without any agenda thank you for doing your public service."

Most in attendance were from the Wilmington area, but Majure-Rhett said the Brunswick County Commissioners and Pender County Commissioners were also invited to attend.
