A 25-year-old woman was arrested after she threw a pot of boiling water at her boyfriend, burning their one-year-old child, according to North Charleston police.
Felicia Faith Johnson was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
According to the incident report, police were called to an apartment in the 6100 block of Rivers Avenue for a report of an injured infant. Once inside, police say they found a man holding his left hand which appeared red.
He told police his girlfriend had thrown a crock pot at him and the boiling liquid contents fell on their child.
He directed police to the bathroom where he said his girlfriend had the baby and was trying to stop the burning. The officer reported that he saw the woman kneeling on the floor submersing the child under running water in the bathtub.
The baby had deep redness on the right side of his body from his head to his shoulders, arm and down to his buttocks, the report states.
The officer immediately took the baby to an EMS crew waiting outside the residence for treatment and then attempted to interview the woman, who claimed she was not in the room and did not know what had happened, the report states.
Police say a neighbor told them she heard the couple arguing before the incident. The neighbor also told police that when she entered the room, she found Johnson, who kept repeating that she did not mean to do it and didn't want to lose her kids again, the report states.
The boyfriend told police that he and his girlfriend had gotten into a verbal altercation because she felt he was "speaking to too many guys and not paying enough attention to her." He said that she attempted to throw the crock pot's contents at him, but that most of it landed on the infant who was lying in a crib.
The infant was transported to the hospital where staff told police the child had second degree burns and had to go into surgery. The child will be placed in emergency protective custody, according to the report.
