The price of school meals in Brunswick County will increase next school year due to a mandate from the federal government. Under the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, enacted in 2010, paid meals must be equal in cost to fully subsidized free meals. According to a spokesperson for the system, the board delayed the decision last year but cannot continue to delay or they could experience a balloon increase next year. School board leaders voted to increase the price of meals by 10 cents, making the total cost of a meal $2.20, starting in the 2014-2015 school year.
